FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get an estimate over the phone or via email?

First, we're going to say that we don't give estimates, we give firm, fixed quotes. That said, there are really two answers to this question:

1. We would never give you a quote without seeing your property first. To do so would be irresponsible, and frankly, dishonest. Any contractor that wants to quote over the phone without meeting you first should be avoided. There are just too many variables to be able to give an accurate quote over the phone. We will come to your home, ask you specific questions about the project from which we'll be able to calculate that quote price for you. This leads into the second answer.

2. Typically, we prefer to present the quote to you in the home, either the same day or soon after, schedules permitting. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the pricing you see. However, if you need us to send the Quote to you by email, we will do so, provided we still have the chance to go over it with you.

Will your insurance agent provide me with a copy of your Certificate of Insurance?

You won't need to contact our agent - we'll happily provide you with a copy of your insurance information when we present you with our Quote. You are welcome to confirm any information we provide. As a reminder, you may want to check into North Carolina's requirements for Contractors in terms of insurance and Worker's Compensation. As a Fresh Coat Franchisee:

  • We are required to maintain Worker's Compensation insurance for all our painters, regardless of state requirements.
  • We are required to carry no less than $500,000 in liability insurance for our business.
  • If, for some reason, we need to use a subcontractor to do the work, they will need to meet these requirements as well, or we will not use them.
If a painting contractor is not able to produce the appropriate insurance documents, do not hire them, as you may be responsible for any injuries or other accidents that occur and be liable for medical expenses and loss of wages. Make sure to call the insurance carrier to verify the policy is still in effect.

Will you provide a discount for multiple rooms and areas?

Yes. We will offer you a discount if you hire us to paint multiple properties and rooms at the same time. The amount of the discount will depend on how close together the projects are and how similar the rooms are to each other.

How do I get an estimate?

There are two ways you can get in contact with us to get a Quote for your home or business: You can call us at 919-704-3999 or you can complete our FREE Quote Form.

If you call, you'll always speak to a LIVE person, never a machine, and you can have an appointment booked right away. If you choose to complete the form, we receive notice right away and someone will contact you as soon as possible to set that appointment.

We always do our best to honor the 3-3-3 Pledge. Your time is valuable, and we want you to experience Painting done RIGHT!

How long does it take to get an estimate?

When we schedule an appointment with you, we will normally set aside about two hours, to make sure we can answer questions and measure everything accurately. After that, we can have a computer-generated proposal the same day, often on site.

You see, unlike other contractors who eyeball the job, give you a low number, and then raise the price after they start, we provide you with a firm, fixed quote every time. The price we quote is the price you'll pay.

Do I need to be home when you are working?

Not at all. All of our painters are completely bonded and insured, so you can feel safe leaving your home in our hands. All that we ask is that you set aside some time each day so that we can provide you with an update on the progress of the project.

How long does it take?

It's difficult to give a general answer to this question. It takes as long as it takes, really, because every project is a little different. We do provide you with approximate finish dates based on best-case scenarios, as required by law. Once we start your project, we stay on it each day until we are finished unless there are circumstances beyond our control, like weather, that do not permit us to work. In those cases, we would notify you and provide an updated finish date.

When you start a job, do you stay until it is complete?

Yes, without fail. We treat your project as if we were painting our own home, so we do everything we can to limit the distraction and inconvenience to you. Additionally, since we aren't paid until the project is finished, we are motivated to complete the job on time.

Sometimes there are circumstances that may prevent us from working, such as weather, but you will be notified in advance if this happens.

What about bathrooms?

Generally, we would ask that you identify for us a bathroom that you would prefer our painters to use. Your privacy will always be protected. However, we will respect your wishes on the matter - just keep in mind that limiting bathroom access might increase the amount of time it takes to complete the work, as we will not bring a bathroom with us (meaning the painters will have to find another facility to use).

Will you clean up after the job is complete?

Always. We will do everything to leave your home as beautiful as we found it (and with fresh paint to boot!). Floors and carpets are swept and vacuumed and furniture placed back.

As a convenience, we normally ask for access to a sink that we can use for cleanup or an outside water source if an indoor sink isn't available.

Let's work together to make your project great.
